Is Sanitizing Ductwork in Your Home Necessary?
These include the evaporator coil and condensate pan (because they stay wet during air conditioning season and can act as a partial filter throughout the year), the filter section (because it is the point of capture for many of the contaminants), and the blower section (because it is a point of significant buildup over time).
We treat coils with a non-acid coil cleaner and Benefect as an anti-microbial. We treat blower and filter sections with an emulsifier for grease and dirt removal, also followed by Benefect as an anti-microbial.
Benefect is an all-natural anti-microbial made from plant oils. The health rating on Benefect is “0,” which means that there is almost no health risk.
Important Note: Health rating of materials was developed by the NPCA (National Paint & Coatings Association) as a compliance aid for the OSHA Hazardous Communication Standard. These ratings run from “0” to “4”:
- “0” = Minimal Hazard
- “1” = Slight Hazard
- “2” = Moderate Hazard
- “3” = Serious Hazard
- “4” = Severe Hazard
Make sure you identify the hazard level of any materials used in your home’s HVAC System. Otherwise, you may be trading a dust or mold contamination issue for a chemical contamination issue.
